Load IFC files directly in your browser — your data stays local on your device.

Navigate the model

Rotate, zoom and fly freely through your 3D building model.

Read IFC properties

Click on any element and inspect its full set of IFC properties.

No installation required

The viewer runs entirely in your browser — on any device, without installing any software.

Load multiple models

Load several IFC files at once and view them in a shared scene.

Custom filters

Create your own filters to show or hide specific building elements.

Section planes

Place section planes through your model to expose hidden areas.

Floor plan view

Switch to 2D floor plan view and explore your model floor by floor.

Measure

Take simple distance and area measurements directly on the model.

Closed Beta · limited places

Beta programme: extended features in the browser

A closed beta test is currently running with extended modules for editing IFC models — BIM in the browser, without additional software. Participation is limited to a small number of places.

Property Editor

Create your own property sets (Psets) directly in the browser and fill them with custom attributes. The Property Editor enriches elements with additional IFC properties — without any authoring tool.

Classification Manager

Classify model elements according to the IFC schema: assign valid IFC entities and predefined types, adjust the storey/spatial assignment, and create IFC systems (e.g. for MEP) and assign elements to them.

Quantity & element lists

Generate element lists and quantities from the IFC model, filter them and export to Excel or CSV. Turn the BIM model directly into usable lists for quantity take-off and further processing.

The extended modules are part of a closed beta test with a limited number of places.

BCF Issues — directly in the viewer

Create, edit and export BIM-based issues in the open BCF format

Import & view

Import BCF files and review issues directly on the 3D model — including camera viewpoints and element selection.

Create issues

Create new issues with a screenshot, camera viewpoint and highlighted elements. Multiple viewpoints per issue are supported.

Export & share

Export issues as BCF files (v2.1 or v3.0) — compatible with BIMcollab, Solibri, Navisworks and other BCF tools.

BCF import is available to everyone. A free account is required to create and export issues.

Frequently asked questions about the IFC Viewer

What is an IFC Viewer?

An IFC Viewer is software used to open and inspect IFC files (Industry Foundation Classes). IFC is the open standard format for exchanging BIM (Building Information Modeling) models in the construction industry. With the icBIM Viewer you can open IFC files for free directly in your browser — no installation required.

Is the icBIM Viewer really free?

Yes, the icBIM Viewer is fully free to use — no hidden costs and no file size limit. For extended features such as creating and exporting BCF issues you can create a free account.

Which IFC versions are supported?

The icBIM Viewer supports IFC2x3, IFC4 and IFC4x3 — including the new infrastructure domain (roads, rails, bridges, tunnels, geotechnics, earthworks, alignments, etc.). Files from BIM software such as Revit, ArchiCAD, Allplan or Tekla can be opened directly.

Note: Some IFC4x3 entities use complex geometry representations (e.g. IfcSectionedSolidHorizontal, IfcDirectrixDerivedReferenceSweptAreaSolid) that are not yet fully supported by the underlying open-source stack. In those cases the model is loaded and the viewer informs you which elements could not produce geometry.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The icBIM Viewer processes your IFC and BCF files exclusively locally in your browser. Your model data never leaves your machine — maximum data security without any cloud upload. See the privacy notice for details.

Do I have to install any software?

No, the icBIM Viewer runs entirely in the web browser. You only need a modern browser such as Chrome, Firefox or Edge. No installation, no plugin, no download required.

Why do I need to register to create and export BCF files?

In model-based communication it is important that issues and comments can be transparently attributed to the people involved. To guarantee this and to prevent abuse, a verified email address is required. The most reliable way to do this is a user account.

What does the closed beta mean?

The closed beta lets participants try out extended features of the icBIM Viewer ahead of release — currently the Property Editor, the Classification Manager and the quantity/element lists. Participation is limited to a small number of places and a free user account is required.

To develop and improve these features, usage data from the beta modules is recorded and analysed on an account-related basis. See the privacy notice and the terms of use for details.
